Pero, con siglos de historia sobre sus muros, la región valona atesora algunas de las fortificaciones más cautivadoras del país, un espectáculo para la retina. Por historia, mística o singularidad, emergen como una de las opciones más aconsejables. Bélgica es el país con más castillos por metro cuadrado del mundo, y Valonia, la región del sur de Bélgica, no es una excepción.

Belgium is the world’s most populated country of castles per metre square, and the southern Walloon region of Belgium, is no exception.
Modave castle
Cerca de Huy se alza esta magnificente fortaleza rodeada de sus 450 hectáreas ajardinadas. Data de la Edad Media, demolido en el siglo XVII fue reconstruido adaptando su estilo al de una casa de campo rodeada de bellos jardines bordeados por rosas.
This magnificent stronghold stands near the municipality of Huy, and is surrounded by 450 hectares of landscaped gardens. Dating back to the Middle Ages, the castle was demolished in the 17th century and rebuilt to adapt its style to a country house surrounded by rose-lined gardens.
Reinhardstein castle
Hogar de señores feudales de Valonia desde 1354, hoy vive una segunda juventud gracias a su reconstrucción en 1969. Desde entonces se ha convertido en un museo que exhibe armaduras, tapices, pinturas, cofres, o un imponente Salón de los Caballeros.
Home to the suzerain of Wallonia since 1354, the castle serves a second purpose today thanks to its reconstruction in 1969. Since then, it has been turned into a museum that exhibits armour, tapestries, paintings, chests and an impressive Knight’s Hall.
Val Saint Lambert castle
Los 1.000 años de historia de la fortaleza, que empezó siendo una abadía, y el museo de cristalería que guarda en su interior, son probablemente lo más espectacular de este castillo ubicado en Seraing, cerca de Lieja.
The 1,000-year history of this stronghold, which was initially an abbey, together with its museum of glass, are probably the most spectacular features of this castle located in Seraing, near Liège.
Castle of Vêves
Un lugar de ensueño. Solo hace falta vislumbrarlo en el horizonte para ver que es la típica y bella fortaleza de cuento infantil, con sus cinco torres de acabado puntiagudo. Pero no solo eso, el castillo rinde una auténtica oda a las fábulas, permitiendo a los niños vestirse de princesas y caballeros y que se sientan como los auténticos protagonistas del cuento.

But that’s not all, as the castle pays an authentic ode to the tales by allowing children to dress as princesses and knights, so they can feel like the main characters of the tale.
Beloeil castle
Este “Versalles” belga se encuentra en Valonia, y su apodo avisa de la magnificencia de esta fortaleza. Guarda una colección de objetos artísticos originales de los siglos XV al XIX. Aunque probablemente su punto más destacado del interior es la biblioteca, con más de 20.000 libros. Esencial visitar también su jardín a la francesa y su estanque, que rodea la fortaleza.
This Belgian “Versailles” is situated in Wallonia and its nickname gives away the magnificence of this stronghold, which keeps a collection of original artistic objects from the 15th and 16th centuries. Although its most remarkable interior feature is probably the library with over 20,000 books. Its French-style garden and pond that surround the castle are also a must-visit.
